Message from the Chief Residents

Thank you for your interest in the Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center, a teaching affiliate of Columbia University. Our program has a total of 24 residents composed of 6 residents matching each year. We pride ourselves on the diversity and cohesiveness of our residents that undoubtedly result from the significant role our residents play in the yearly interview and match process.

Our residents train in the setting of a Level I trauma center at St. Luke’s Hospital, busy subspecialty services at Roosevelt Hospital, and an extensive outpatient referral base. The residency provides a weekly full day of didactic and case-based conferences protected for residents who are not on-call or rotating with VIR. Most weekly conference lectures are recorded and hosted online for residents unable to attend. The conferences are provided in conjunction with Beth Israel hospital and take advantage of the strengths of the subspecialties at both institutions. Residents also participate in a variety of multidisciplinary conferences including radiology-pathology, autopsy, breast, and neurointerventional as well as a weekly tumor board.
A resident-driven Brant and Helms club is held weekly for our first years. First year residents also attend a formal ER prep course before taking solo call the beginning of their second year.

Research is encouraged and residents are sponsored to present at national conferences throughout their residency. Residents attend a four week long AIRP course (formerly known as the AFIP) in Washington, DC, typically during their third year, with tuition paid by the department in addition to a housing stipend.

Often noted as a great benefit of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt residency programs is the housing maintained by the hospital and offered to the residents at relatively low cost. The buildings located near the Roosevelt site in midtown Manhattan are in close proximity to Columbus Circle, Central Park, and Hudson River Park.

After residency, most of our residents pursue a fellowship. Our residents enter careers in both academia and private practice, reflecting the well-rounded training that we receive.

We look forward to receiving your application. Please do not hesitate to contact either one of us if you have any questions.
