Application Process

                           Message from the Chief Residents

Thank you for your interest in our residency program. Our program consists of 25 residents with a wide range of interests and background who hail from a variety of places. We pride ourselves in maintaining a culture that promotes diversity, intellectual curiosity and cohesiveness. As you will see, we have been able to achieve and maintain our unique culture by having residents play an integral role in the interviewing and selection of future colleagues.

Our location is in one of the best neighborhoods in New York City - within walking distance of Central Park, Columbus Circle, Lincoln Center, food and nightlife in Hell’s Kitchen, to name a few - coupled with guaranteed affordable housing makes us a unique program. Guaranteed housing is only one of several benefits we negotiate as members of the Committee of Interns and Residents (CIR).

Our prime location not only allows us to enjoy the best that New York City has to offer but also provides us with unparalleled hands on training opportunities.  We cover two hospitals along the west side of Manhattan - Mt Sinai St Luke’s Hospital (a regional trauma center) in Northern Manhattan/Harlem and Mt Sinai West (a multi-subspecialty hospital) in the Midtown West/Upper West Side - as well as a number of outpatient imaging centers. Residents are exposed to a wide variety of cases through dedicated rotations and during call rotations across our various sites.

First year residents begin the year with an orientation month designed to allow smooth integration into the regular radiology workflow.  There are didactic and case-based conferences throughout the year for residents to gain proficiency across the various radiology disciplines.  In addition, third year residents attend the 4-week long AIRP course in Maryland and are provided with dedicated core exam preparation courses. We are proud that our program consistently ranks amongst the best in the country for core exam pass rates.

Residents are encouraged and supported to participate in research.  Residents are sponsored to attend national conferences to present their research.  In addition, all senior residents are sponsored by the department to attend RSNA or an alternative national conference of their choice during their final year.

The quality of our residency program is best demonstrated by the fact that our residents have consistently obtained fellowship positions in the most prestigious fellowship training programs across the country with subsequent careers across both private practice and academia.

We are glad that you are interested in joining our family and look forward to receiving your application. Please do not hesitate to contact either one of us if you have any questions.
