Facilities and Equipment

We use Nuance (Powerscribe 360) voice-recognition dictation throughout the Mount Sinai system. These systems were integrated to a common server in September 2016 so that reports from Mount Sinai St. Luke's, West, Queens, Beth Israel and the Mount Sinai (East) sites are on one system. This is one of the steps in preparation for the unification of our PACS system.

The radiology department has unified our PACS system to a new version of GE PACS this fall (November 2016). This includes the Mount Sinai St. Luke's, West, Queens, Beth Israel and the Mount Sinai (East) sites.

There are 1.5 T MRI and 256-slice CT scanners at Mount Sinai West and St. Luke's sites. We installed a second 1.5T MRI at MS West (done 9/16). A 3T MR/PET and new 1.5 T MR will be installed at MS St. Luke's. (The equipment is already on site.)
We have Siemens single plane and biplane angiography equipment. The angiography suite at the Mount Sinai West site is modeled like an operating room, with its own holding area and procedure rooms in a sterile area.
Areas of growth reflect the institutional commitment to support the following clinical programs:

  1. Both the St. Luke's and WestSites are Designated Stroke Centers (SLR administered more TPA last year than any other Manhattan Hospital)
  2. Obesity center including surgery and laparsocopic surgery.
  3. Robotics in thoracic and cardiac surgery.
  4. Noninvasive treatment of vascular disease including aneurysms and stenosis.
  5. Women's specialty centers at both sites.
  6. CV Starr Hand Surgery Center (MS West).

Volume: 222,000 radiology reports were generated in 2006. This includes: 81,000 from the Emergency Department.
